National Commander Denise Rohan’s statement on Acting VA Secretary Robert Wilkie’s nomination for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs secretary by President Donald Trump.
“On the behalf of our two million wartime veteran members, we welcome the news of President Trump’s decision today to fill the position of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The VA has been without Senate-confirmed Secretary for 51 days and we urge the Senate to schedule a confirmation hearing quickly.
The American Legion believes the VA is a symbol of our nations’s commitment to our veterans.
The department deserves strong, competent leadership at every level to ensure our veterans receive the benefits they so richly deserve for their selfless service to our great nation.
Additionally, the signing of the Cerner electronic health records contract yesterday is an important down payment on the strategic future of the VA. We commend the acting secretary for completing this important deal.”
