National

The annual National Convention is the governing body of The American Legion. Each of The American Legion's 55 Departments (one in each state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, France, Mexico and the Philippines) is entitled to a minimum of five delegates to the National Convention, plus one delegate for each 1,000 members or major fraction thereof, as of 30 days before the convention. The National Commander, members of the National Executive Committee, all living Past National Commanders, and the five National Vice Commanders are also delegates to the National Convention.

Convention cities are selected on a basis of a variety of criteria, including, but not limited to, the availability and price of hotel rooms, meeting space, city services and the needs of the National Organization and the Departments. Bids are accepted from cities that wish to host the convention.

LOCATION OF HOTEL – The Hyatt Regency Milwaukee is located at 333 W. Kilbourn Ave in the downtown Milwaukee, WI 53203; Phone: (414) 276 - 1234; the hotel is approx 15 miles from

the airport. The hotel does not offer shuttle service. This year there are two shuttle services available - Go Airport Connection or Accutrans contact them directly to get the special discount

Go Airport Connection - In order for attendees to receive the $21 round trip fare to/from the Milwaukee airport they must book at least 24 hours in advance through the customized portal. If you would like to access this through the website go to www.goairportconnection.com and type in the code AMELEG and that will take you to the customized portal.

 

Accutrans - for just $12 per person each way you can reserve your transfer by simply logging onto www.accutransmke.com/groupform.asp When they link to that site they will see the first line is Event Code. In that box they need to put the code American Legion and then complete the remainder of the boxes. You will be sent a confirmation confirming all arrangements.

 

If you do not have internet access simply fax Accutrans at 414-226-2101 your arrival and departure information, along with the names of all persons arriving on that flight and they will make all necessary arrangements for your transfers. Remember this is an arrival and departure service expressly for Legionnaires and stops only at specific Legion Hotels.

Accutrans will collect from each person as you board the arrival transfer vehicle.

 

RESERVATIONS – The Department Headquarters will be making all reservations, we will work with the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee to arrange confirmation of your reservation. If you are sharing a room with someone else and they are not on the housing list, please let this office know.

 

HOTEL ROOMS - The rooms are the normal standard rooms. Room rates are $111.00 plus tax, single or double with two occupants. Rollaway beds are $20.00 per day. Extra Occupant is $20.00 per day. Room tax is 14.6%. This means that a single or double room, plus tax will be approximately $129.00 per night. 

 

CANCELLATION OR CHANGES ON YOUR HOUSING - Your deposit will be mailed to the hotel. If you decide to change or cancel - YOU MUST CALL THE HOTEL DIRECT, please contact the Department Adjutant also - If you need to change arrival or departure date - CALL THE HOTEL, please inform Department too - Department cannot return your deposit nor change hotel reservation arrangements; you must contact the hotel.

 

CREDIT OF YOUR DEPOSIT - As required by National Headquarters, your deposit will be mailed to the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee on July 15, 2010. Please make sure when you check in and check out of the hotel, that you have this credit on your bill, if you submitted a room deposit by cash or check to the Department. If you used a credit card then it will be charged to your credit card. THIS IS IMPORTANT AND YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE TO INSURE YOU RECEIVE THIS CREDIT. Do not call Department Headquarters after you have gone home and discovered that you did not receive credit. This will be between you and the hotel to work out.

DELEGATES, ALTERNATES AND GUEST PACKETS - Department does not pay the Legion registration fee for Delegates, Alternates, or Guests. Each person must pay $15.00 for their packet prior to arriving in Milwaukee.                                                               

 

PARKING – The hotel offers valet parking at a rate of $23.00 per day. There are several parking lots in the area and they range in price from $20.00 - $12.00 per day.

LEGION CAUCUS - Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 – 1:00 p.m. in Executive A/B Meeting Room located in the Hotel.                                     

 

AUXILIARY CAUCUS - Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 – 1:00 p.m. in Executive C/D Meeting Room located in the Hotel.                     

 

LEGION OFFICE – Will be located in the Solomon Juneau Room in the Hotel.                            

 

PARADE – This year’s Sunday, August 29 starting at 4:00p.m. We will march off approximately 5:30 - 6:00p.m. The starting point of is approx 0.5 miles from the Hotel and the end of the parade is, approx 0.1 miles from the Hotel.

 

UNIFORM FOR TEXAS PARADE - Please bring your western hat and New Texas Flag Convention Shirt. You may order the convention shirt from our office (512/472-4138). Men should bring a pair of blue slacks or jeans. Ladies should wear blue skirts, if they are not wearing jeans. 

 

TEXAS PARTY – We will hold the Texas Party at Oak Creek Post 434, which is approx 15 miles from our hotel, buses will pick us up at our hotel right after the parade and return us once the event is over. The Texas party will begin around 7pm, after the parade is over.

 

NATIONAL COMMANDER'S DINNER - Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 6:30 P.M. entertainment for this year’s dinner will be the “Aaron Tippin’. This event is sold out.

 

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY STATES DINNER - Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 7:00 P.M. Contact the Auxiliary to purchase tickets.

 

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE CREDIT FOR YOUR ADVANCE DEPOSIT when you check out of the hotel. (This is your responsibility, NOT DEPARTMENT HEADQUARTERS.)  The hotel has stated they will not mail confirmations of rooms.
